A Different Approach to Anxiety, Phobias and Panic - Without Having to Relive the Problem
When anxiety, panic or fear take over, it can feel exhausting. You may know your fears don’t make sense, yet your body reacts instantly - panic, dread, intrusive thoughts, avoidance, overwhelm. Whether it is emetophobia, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety or another fear that is limiting your life, it can begin to feel as though the problem is running you.
If you are looking for an approach that is practical, gentle and does not require you to repeatedly talk through painful experiences, BWRT® may be worth exploring.
What is BWRT® Therapy?
BWRT® (BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®) is a modern psychological therapy designed to help people change unhelpful emotional responses quickly and effectively. Developed by UK psychotherapist Terence Watts, BWRT works with the brain’s natural processing patterns to interrupt automatic fear responses before they take hold.
Unlike many traditional talking therapies, BWRT does not require you to relive distressing memories or discuss details you would rather keep private. In most cases, the focus is simply on understanding how the problem feels for you now - and how you would prefer to respond instead.
This can be particularly helpful for people struggling with:
emetophobia (fear of vomiting)
anxiety and excessive worry
panic attacks
social anxiety
phobias and fears
health anxiety
unwanted habits and compulsive behaviours
addictions and problematic coping patterns
Why do fear and panic feel so automatic?
Have you ever wondered why panic happens before you have time to think?
BWRT is influenced by research from neuroscientist Benjamin Libet, whose work suggested that the brain begins preparing responses before we consciously become aware of them.
This may help explain why fears and anxiety can feel so immediate and involuntary. You might logically know you are safe, yet your nervous system reacts as though danger is already present.
BWRT is designed to work at this rapid, automatic level - helping the brain create a different response pathway so situations that once triggered fear, panic or distress no longer feel overwhelming.
What makes BWRT different?
Many clients seek BWRT because they are tired of endlessly analysing the problem or feeling stuck in cycles of talking without change.
BWRT is:
Practical and focused - centred on helping you move forward rather than repeatedly revisiting the past.
Content-light - you do not need to explain every detail of difficult experiences if you do not want to.
Designed to work quickly - some people notice meaningful change in a small number of sessions, although everyone is different.
Gentle and non-invasive - the process is structured, calm and designed to feel manageable.
Can BWRT help with Emetophobia?
For people living with emetophobia, fear can become all-consuming. You may avoid foods, travel, social events, public places, relationships, pregnancy, or situations where you feel “trapped.” Constant scanning for signs of illness and worst-case thinking can become exhausting.
BWRT can help reduce the automatic fear response that keeps emetophobia going, helping you feel calmer, safer and more able to engage with life again.

You do not have to keep living around fear, panic or anxiety.
Change is possible, and therapy does not have to feel overwhelming. If you are looking for a gentle, practical approach that works with how the brain naturally responds to fear, BWRT may offer a different way forward.
