Emotional eating. It's an expression used a lot now but what does it actually mean?
If you find yourself at home and rummaging in the fridge or the pantry looking for a quick fix of food, but you're not actually hungry, then it's emotional eating. If you're sitting on the couch watching TV and you start thinking about what you can graze on, even though it's only been 90 minutes since you finished your dinner, that is emotional eating. None of that extra food is able to be utilised by your body so it's all stored as fat.

Since I first saw Liz 8 months ago I have stabilised my weight and my life by changing the way I think. I am tempted to say it was easy, because in one sense, it was. Hypnotism helped me start the process of changing unhelpful thinking habits. I now realise my thought patterns were building my anxiety and I was ignoring my body signals that told me I was not hungry. I also held unhelpful beliefs like "eat all the food on your plate", "more is better", "eating fat is bad you" - beliefs I have held since I was a child (nd that are still being promoted through advertising and other social pressures today). I lost my targetted 25kg in 4 months, and I am still at my desired weight today - a weight I last saw in my youth.
I spent about 2 hours per week on average, over the last 8 months, doing the learning and mental exercises that were necessary to change my thinking. I started with several hypnotherapy sessions with Liz which quickly kicked off the behaviour changes I needed to start losing weight. I describe hypnosis as a calming process that helps me get in touch with the thinking that occurs "underneath" my concious thinking - while still leaving me aware at all times. After my initial sessions, I was then able to do my learning via reading and listening to a CD, with phone and email support from Liz as needed - something that was important to me as I live in regional Victoria.
Once my eating behaviour was under control, I started the Thrive program, also provided by Liz. Thrive has led to a measured reduction in my anxiety of 65 % over 4 months, as well as improving my confidence. In my opinion, there is no magic wand for reducing weight. The appoach taken by Liz has provided me with the tools that I needed to change my life for the better - mentally and physically. I had tried different diets and exercise programs over the last 10 years, but never reached the condition I am in now, as I was not addressing the root cause. In the past, I would feel guilty about drifting "off-program" after a while, which exacerbated my anxiety, so I resumed overeating. Now I do not feel guilt - I feel trust in my body and mind. I have already saved more money than it cost me for Liz's consultations, through eating and drinking less. I enjoy life more now, feel younger, and still enjoy eating and drinking whatever I like - I just have less than I used to because I have changed my thinking and listen to my body.
